Philosophy and Goals of the Harrison Presbyterian Nursery School

Our school is designed to create an atmosphere that is warm, loving and a basis for Christian living.  We are committed to implementing a developmentally and age appropriate curriculum helping children to grow socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively.  The children are taught at a comfortable pace geared to each child individually.

Our Philosophy

The Harrison Presbyterian Church Preschool is a non-profit school which was established to provide a service to the community.  It is the aim of the school to provide a stimulating and creative environment which will widen the horizons and foster the social, emotional, physical and intellectual development of each child attending.  Our intention is to create a homelike atmosphere where each child can grow at their own individual pace.  The school shall be a supplement to the home in helping each child grow.  Trained early childhood educators, working together with parents, offer a program of activities to facilitate the physical, cognitive and psychosocial development of children ages three to four years of age.

Our Nursery School strives to create a Christian environment in which each child's curiosity and creativity is awakened and explored.

Our Program

Each class is led by a certified teacher and experienced aides.

Nursery school is a wonderful time of discovery.  Through many different experiences, children grow in all areas of development.  The program includes:

Physical Development for large and small muscle coordination.  Materials are utilized to encourage hand-to-eye coordination and small muscle development.  Opportunities for physical play in our outdoor playground or indoor gym facilitate muscular coordination.  Bi-monthly children's music and movement classes are given to further enhance their physical activities.

Cognitive Development is fostered through learning the basic concepts of art, music, language (reading readiness), science, social studies and math (counting, grouping, measuring, shapes).  And understanding of basic health and safety habits are included.

Social Development.  Our free-play and different group activities allow for the creative interests of the children themselves.  Resourceful, creative play is an essential foundation for emotional growth.  We aim to foster independent, self-help skills.

Spiritual Awareness is gained through a God-oriented atmosphere in the classroom.  Reading of Bible stories is included for the holidays.
